Excerpt

The project was designed to establish a community for tenant-farmer families and low- income families forced to go on relief because of poor farming land or because of drought. These families are being given an opportunity to become self-supporting and to raise their standard of living.

Most of the 5,305 acres of this agricultural community project in Wichita County Irrigation District No. 2 was in cultivation when purchased, or had been previously farmed. On the 92 farm tracts, averaging 51 acres each, cotton and alfalfa are the principal cash crops. Grain is grown for livestock feed. Dairy cows, hogs, poultry, fruit, and vegetables are raised to supplement cash income and to provide the major portion of family food supplies. Good marketing and shipping facilities are available in the area.
