    • Journal of Applied Microbiology
    • Abstract

      Aims

This study investigated the in vitro antibacterial activity of Hesperozygis ringens (Benth.) Epling leaf extracts against fish pathogenic bacteria, as well as the in vivo activity of the most active extract in silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) experimentally infected with Aeromonas hydrophila. Moreover, the chemical composition of the extract used in the survival assay was evaluated.

    • Rui Pang, Tengfei Xie, Qingping Wu, Yanping Li, Tao Lei, Jumei Zhang, Yu Ding, Juan Wang, Liang Xue, Moutong Chen, Xianhu Wei, Youxiong Zhang, Shuhong Zhang, Xiaojuan Yang Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a major foodborne pathogen associated with the consumption of aquatic products. The presence of this bacterium in ready-to-eat (RTE) foods has recently been reported. However, the genomic features and potential risks of V. parahaemolyticus isolated from RTE foods are poorly understood.

  19. The role of extrolites secreted by nonaflatoxigenic Aspergillus flavus in biocontrol efficacy

    • Journal of Applied Microbiology
    • Abstract

      Aims

Field control of aflatoxin contamination is thought to occur through competitive exclusion of native aflatoxigenic fungi by introduced nonaflatoxigenic Aspergillus flavus biocontrol strains. In this study, we explored another possible mechanism that could increase the efficacy of biocontrol strains—the production of secreted compounds termed extrolites.
