  1. Bacillomycin D with calcium propionate effectively inhibited microbial growth and reduced deoxynivalenol on maize kernels during storage

    • Journal of Stored Products Research
    • Maize kernels contaminated with deoxynivalenol (DON) reduced their nutritional and economic values and were exposed to greater risks under high moisture conditions. In this study, an antifungal combination of bacillomycin D (BD) with calcium propionate (CP) was used in maize polluted by microorganisms and DON. During the storage of maize kernels, BD combined with calcium propionate (BD+CP) treatment inhibited the growth of fungi and bacteria.

    • Genes
    • Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is widely prevalent in foods and animal feeds and is one of the most toxic and carcinogenic aflatoxin subtypes. Existing studies have proved that the intestine is targeted by AFB1, and adverse organic effects have been observed. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between AFB1-induced intestinal toxicity and N6-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA methylation, which involves the post-transcriptional regulation of mRNA expression.

  7. A Novel Trichothecene Toxin Phenotype Associated with Horizontal Gene Transfer and a Change in Gene Function in Fusarium

    • Toxins
    • Fusarium trichothecenes are among the mycotoxins of most concern to food and feed safety. Production of these mycotoxins and presence of the trichothecene biosynthetic gene (TRI) cluster have been confirmed in only two multispecies lineages of Fusarium: the Fusarium incarnatum-equiseti (Incarnatum) and F. sambucinum (Sambucinum) species complexes. Here, we identified and characterized a TRI cluster in a species that has not been formally described and is represented by Fusarium sp.

  22. DNA tetrahedral scaffold-corbelled 3D DNAzyme walker for electrochemiluminescent aflatoxin B1 detection

    • Food Chemistry

Herein, three-dimensional (3D) DNAzyme walker were first fixed on the top of DNA tetrahedral scaffold to improve the immobilization efficiency. Ferrocene (Fc) that labeled at substrate strand ends effectively quenched the electrochemiluminescence (ECL) signal of Ru(bpy)2(cpaphen)2+, yielding the sensor in a “signal-off” state.

    • Frontiers in Microbiology

Apart from A. flavus, A. parasiticus, and A. nomius of Aspergillus genus, which are most toxin-producing strains, several fungal bodies including Fusarium, Penicillium, and Alternaria that can biosynthesis aflatoxins. Basically, there are four different types of aflatoxins (Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), Aflatoxin B2 (AFB2), Aflatoxin G1 (AFG1), Aflatoxin G2 (AFG2)) are produced as secondary metabolites.

  24. Alkaline phosphatase triggered ratiometric fluorescence immunoassay for detection of zearalenone

    • Food Control
    • Inspired by the super-binding capacity of pyrophosphate (ppi) and copper ion (Cu2+), an alkaline phosphatase (ALP) triggered ratiometric fluorescence immunoassay was established for detection of zearalenone (ZEN). In the assay, ALP-antibody acted as a bridge connecting ZEN concentration and ratiometric fluorescence signals. Due to the super-binding ability of ppi and Cu2+, Cu2+ was immobilized to form ppi-Cu2+ complex and lost its oxidation activity.
