  1. Probiotic effects (Bacillus cereus and Bacillus subtilis) on growth and physiological parameters of silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen)

    • This study aimed at evaluating the effects of a probiotic additive in productive performance and physiological parameters for Rhamdia quelen. The fish were fed diets containing increasing levels of the additive (0.15; 0.30; 0.45; and 0.60 g/kg of feed), which consisted of a blend of Bacillus cereus and B. subtilis, both at the concentration of 4 × 1011 CFU). Productive performance parameters were higher in fish fed diets containing 0.60 g/kg of the probiotics.

Five hundred forty healthy grass carp grow‐out (232.74 ± 0.12 g) were fed diets containing graded levels of xylanase for 60 days. The fish were then challenged with Aeromonas hydrophila for 14 days.

    • Housefly larvae are widely used in livestock breeding industry as a functional feed additive with immunostimulant properties, but their effects as dietary additive are poorly understood in aquatic animals. We conducted an eight‐week rearing experiment to determine the effects of housefly larvae (complete) on growth performance, immunity and intestinal microbiota in swamp eel (Monopterus albus).

  10. Clostridium butyricum as probiotic for promoting growth performance, feed utilization, gut health and microbiota community of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus × O. aureus)

    • The feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the potentials of Clostridium butyricum in the diet of tilapia. Fish (~14 g) were fed with basal diet supplemented with 0 (Control), 0.5 (C‐1), 1 (C‐2), 2 (C‐3), 4 (C‐4) and 8 (C‐5) g/kg commercial probiotic‐containing C. butyricum (1.5 × 108 CFU/g) for 8 weeks. The results showed that weight gain significantly increased, and feed conversion ratio decreased in the C‐2, C‐3 and C‐4 groups (p < .05).

  11. Effects of two dietary probiotics (Bacillus subtilis or licheniformis) with two prebiotics (mannan or fructo oligosaccharide) in Japanese eel, Anguilla japonica

Fish averaging 12.8 ± 0.47 g (mean ± SD) were randomly distributed into five treatments with triplicate tanks.

    • The effects of taurine supplementation on the growth and intestinal immune function in young grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) were investigated in this study. A total of 540 fish (initial average weights of 255.74 ± 0.65 g) were fed one fishmeal diet and five all‐plant protein source‐based diets with graded levels of taurine (0 to 1.98g/kg diet) for 60 days, and then challenged with Aeromonas hydrophila for 14 days.
