  1. Deep eutectic solvent (DES) with silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) based assay for analysis of lead (II) in edible oils

    • This paper presents an application of silver nanoparticles impregnated by Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES) as ultrasonication aided microextraction system for lead (II) determination in edible oils. The paper presents a systematic optimization of method parameters and examples of its application for analysis of real samples. Maximum recovery for lead (II) extraction was obtained for choline chloride and phenol with a 1:2 M ratio.

  2. A ratiometric fluorescent sensing system for the selective and ultrasensitive detection of pesticide residues via the synergetic effects of copper nanoclusters and carbon quantum dots

    • Agricultural products, such as foodstuffs and herbal medicines, may be contaminated by pesticides. Therefore, developing sensitive methods for pesticide detection are urgently needed for the assurance of food safety. In this study, a ratiometric fluorescent sensing system based on blue-emitted nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (N-CQDs) and red-emitted copper nanoclusters (CuNCs) complex was fabricated for pesticide detection.

    • The aim of the study was to assess arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), and mercury (Hg) contamination of freshwater fish from Poland. Selected species of raw, smoked, and pickled freshwater fish (n=212) were evaluated by atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) and inductively coupled plasma - mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Assessment of health risk associated with intake of investigated elements present in fish was performed.

  4. Metal-organic frameworks with peroxidase-like activity for efficient removal of aflatoxin B1

    • Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), a naturally produced toxin existing in major food crops, is highly toxic and carcinogenic to human and animals. In this study, a reusable material, Pd@PCN-222 with great adsorption performance and peroxidase-like activity was synthesized for the removal of AFB1. Pd@PCN-222 exhibited great adsorption performance owing to hierarchical porous structure.

    • Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites of fungi that cause severe damage to agricultural products and food in the food supply chain. These detrimental pollutants have been directly linked with poor socioeconomic patterns and human health issues. Among the natural micropollutants, ochratoxin A (OTA) and deoxynivalenol (DON) are widely distributed in food materials. The primary occurrence of these mycotoxins is reported in almost all cereal grains and fresh agro-products.

  6. Simultaneous determination of aflatoxins, fumonisin B1, T-2 and cyclopiazonic acid in agri-products by immunomagnetic solid-phase extraction coupled with UHPLC-MS/MS

    • In the present study, a rapid and sensitive determination method of seven mycotoxins was developed using immunomagnetic solid-phase extraction (IMPSE) coupled with UHPLC-MS/MS. Monoclonal antibodies were conjugated with CNBr superparamagnetic beads, and the major parameters affecting the IMPSE efficiency were systematically investigated. Under the optimized conditions, the mycotoxins were purified with the IMSPE procedure within 15 min and simultaneously quantified by UHPLC-MS/MS.

  7. Ultrasensitive microfluidic immunosensor with stir bar enrichment for point-of-care test of Staphylococcus aureus in foods triggered by DNAzyme-assisted click reaction

    • This work demonstrated an ultrasensitive and simple microfluidic immunosensor for point-of-care test of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) based on the stir bar enrichment and DNAzyme-assisted click reaction. Initially, S. aureus was enriched by the 4-mercaptophenylboronic acid-functionalized stir bar. The yolk antibody (immunoglobulin Y) and copper-labeled polydopamine nanoparticles were then specifically conjugated with the captured target.

    • In this work, the inhibition of clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) - CRISPR associated protein (Cas) trans-cleavage by Pb2+-induced G-quadruplex has been firstly explored to detect Pb2+ in tea beverage and milk.
