Long-Term Goal and Supporting ObjectivesThe goal of this project is to advance strategies that support Native American tribes in development that provides economic opportunity in rural areas while increasing food security and food sovereignty.Research ObjectivesObjective R1: Evaluate and inform advancement of strategies for agricultural and food system- based business development for the Nez Perce and Coeur d'Alene tribes and tribes with similar interests.Objective R2: Evaluate access to and use of capital and other resources available to tribes and tribal members for agricultural infrastructure and related development.Objective R3: Evaluate opportunities for tribes to participate in an intertribal food economy.Objective R4: Identify and evaluate high-profit opportunities for tribally branded agricultural products.Extension ObjectivesObjective E1: Provide Coeur d'Alene and Nez Perce youth with experiences that expose them to food entrepreneurship and career opportunities in agriculture as well as their own and each other's traditional foods.Objective E2: Host a northwest intertribal food summit to share lessons learned, support network and alliance building, and provide information and training to tribes engaged in food system-based economic development.
