Train and assist scientists based in Africa with the development of biological control for the management of aflatoxins in Mozambique with the goal of optimizing use of native microbials for the practical management of aflatoxin contamination and understanding the contamination process.

In collaboration between the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and USDA-ARS potential biological control agents will be collected from soils and crops in the target country and characterized with molecular tools to assist selection of biological control fungi. Assistance will be provided for the training of African scientists in order to improve the capacity of the target nations to contribute to improvements in aflatoxin management. Field and laboratory experience will be used to teach students and troubleshoot problems associated with adapting biological control to Mozambique.
