This research project will investigate the development and evaluation of a new method to detect marine biotoxins in shellfish. The method is to be developed and validated according to international guidelines to be consistent with its use in the statutory monitoring programme for marine biotoxins in shellfish.
Research Approach:<BR> The research aims to study the liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) as an alternative to the current method for the detection of lipophilic toxins (LTs) in shellfish. It is vital to establish that the analytical method is able to detect the LTs with accuracy. This will ensure that the method identifies any non-contaminated sample, and is capable of quantifying compounds in contaminated samples according to the regulatory limits.
