Application of Yeast to Control Aflatoxin in Tree-Nuts and Corn

Objective

WRRC and SWO will work together on a CRADA to reduce or eliminate costly problems with aflatoxin. Saprophytic yeast discovered by WRRC will be field tested by SWO and registered for commercialization.
<p>
<ol> <li>Further characterize the yeast, Pichia anomala in order to correlate yeast parameters with field data.
<li>Develop suitable fermentation media towards optimization of mass production of yeast by SWO and subsidiaries.
<li>Test method to prolong the shelf-life of yeast strain.
<li>In response to field data, develop methods to improve formulation of biocontrol yeast.
<li>Analyze microflora on corn and screen for additional effective yeast to control Aspergillus flavus. </ol>
