To obtain fundamental information on ruminal and gastrointestinal metabolism of 2-nitroethane and to use this information as a basis for the establishment of feeding and dosing regimes that optimize control of pathogens and reductions in ruminal methane production.
Ruminally cannulated feedlot cattle will be administered 0, 0.06 or 0.12 g 2-nitroethane/kg BW per day to assess the kinetics of its ruminal and gastrointestinal metabolism, its passage and absorption and to assess effects of the dosing regimes on generic E. coli, Salmonella and Campylobacter.
