Biobased BPA-Free Epoxy Coatings for Food and Beverage Applications

Objective

This Phase II SBIR project further develops IsoKote Coatings - a new approach to synthesize isosorbide based epoxy coatings that can replace BPA based epoxy coatings used currently in food and beverage industry. The specific objectives of Phase 2 are:• Conduct further thermos-physical tests on IsoBGB coated aluminum panels• Develop an IsoBGB formulation with coating properties comparable to commercially available formulations based on BADGE• Demonstrate coating of Iso2BGB formulation on actual aluminum beverage cans for further testing.• Perform all Phase 1 tests on the formulated coatings and conduct new tests for mechanical properties and chemical resistance.• Evaluate toxicological properties by carrying out biological testing and estrogen receptor binding assays.
