Building a Multi-Tactic Pheromone-based Pest Management System in Western Orchards

Objective

Research and develop novel monitoring and direct control systems for codling moth to create integrated pest management approaches to replace the use of organophosphate insecticides and faster food safety.

More information

Isolate and identify host plant volatiles that effect codling moth behaviors of both adults and larvae.

Identify putative attractants, aggregation stimulants, and ovipositional stimulants and deterrants.

Demonstrate and optimize the attractiveness and stimulation properties.

Develop formulations to stabilize and control emission rates of semiochemicals.

Determine and develop population monitoring capabilities.

Determine and develop control capabilities of semiochemicals as mass trapping, attract and kill with insecticides, and orientation disruptants.
