- To proportion variation in Cadmium (Cd) accumulation in soybean and a leafy green crop among cultivar, soil characteristics known to control Cd bioavailability, and soil-plant water usage; and
- To integrate this knowledge into recommendations for field production practices that reduce soil-human transfer of Cd through direct or indirect ingestion of these plant products.
Expected Benefits:
A predictive model for accumulation of Cd from Ontario soils into varieties of soybean and leaf lettuce that identifies the points of control for this contaminant, and the integration of this predictive model into a Best Management Plan for producers.
For more information, please visit the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food & Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) Food Safety Research Program.
