The long term goal is to develop and optimize management strategies that minimize the prevalence of zoonotic enteric bacteria, including those resistant to antimicrobial agents, in dairy production systems. The specific objective of this project is characterize and compare bacterial pathogens (Salmonella, Listeria, Campylobacter, and pathogenic E. coli) that have been isolated from dairy animals and their environment. Results will be used to identify potential factors that influence colonization dynamics in the bovine gut.
