Create nationwide food safety resources and support artisan/farmstead dairy producers

Objective

Obj 1. Provide food safety support to the national artisan dairy food community through food safety plan coaching workshops and through virtual, 1-on-1food safety coaching support to artisan dairy producers. Obj 2. Develop and implement a national program that will train graduate students across different US universities to aid in the food safety consultation for small artisan dairy producers. Abstract: The USDA funded Artisan Dairy Food Safety Plan Coaching Workshop aims to host at least 5- 6 coaching workshops a year across the nation. Each workshop will be led by either the grant lead, Dr. Samuel Alcaine, or a Co-lead in collaboration with a coach from an institution in the region. This position will be able to act as a Co-lead or co-coach as needed based on the region and number of participants in a given workshop. Furthermore, while one of the goals of regional institution participation in a workshop is to develop local coaching resources that will be available to their local artisan community, there will be a need for national presence for food safety plan questions directly from artisans or from the local coaches. The individual in this position would serve as the focal point to field such inquires, and leverage the dairy food safety knowledge within the Cornell community.
