CROSS-POLLINATING CIRCUMPOLAR CURRICULA: WORKSHOPPING A NEW VARIETY OF FOOD SYSTEMS EDUCATION

The primary goalof the Planning Activity project is the creation of an evidence-based, stakeholder-informed Collaborative Grant Type 2 proposal for interdisciplinary degree programming in "Sustainable Circumpolar Food Systems", designed to increase the number and diversity of students who will pursue and complete a postsecondary degree in the FANH sciences (HEC Program Goal #2) in our country's northernmost state. Such programming will be designed to help prepare Alaska universities to join the justified trend of expanding post-secondary sustainable food systems education programming, and to add to the trend by contributing its own "veriety" through a Circumpolar focus. The growing number of interdisciplinary academic programs, centers, and associated research initiatives focused on food systems, sustainable agriculture, and food studies is a testament to the need for better understanding the interrelated drivers of food security and the concomitant breaking down of silos of expertise, as well as increasing student demand for educational opportunities that will prepae them to meet the food security challenges of today and the future.The goal will be achieved through the support ofa single primary objective:1. Designing, recruiting for, hosting, and analyzing findings from aworkshop entitled "Cross-Pollinating Circumpolar Curricula: Workshopping a New Variety of Food Systems Education".?
