Determination As to Whether a Commercially Available Vaccine Is Able to Clear Challenge-Induced Salmonella Lymph Node Colonization

Objective

Determine whether a commercially available Salmonella vaccine is able to eliminate Salmonella from the lymph nodes of dairy calves following significant oral challenge.

More information

Approach:
Dairy calves purchased from a commercial dairy will be housed at USDA-ARS-FFSRU, College Station, TX, experimentally infected with Salmonella (pathogenic and non-pathogenic strains), followed by administration of Salmonella vaccine. Animals will be necropsied and lymph nodes examined for challenge strains of Salmonella.
