To develop, validate and transfer immunochemical screening and analytical/confirmatory methods for detection of cyanobacterial toxins in catfish products.
Approach:
The efficacy of currently available methods and newly devised advantageous methods for screening and quantitation of cyanobacterial toxins in catfish filets and other catfish products will be investigated. Immunochemical (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, ELISA) and analytical (liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, LC-MS/MS) methods will be developed and/or evaluated. Purified cyanobacterial toxins are commercially available and will be purchased for use as reference standards for experiments. Catfish samples will be fortified with known concentration of cyanobacterial toxins for analysis by developed methods. Blank samples will also be tested as controls for comparison purposes.
