Dietary Manipulation to Control Campylobacter Colonisation in Extensively Reared Chickens

Objective

The project aims to identify potential diets and dietary components and their effects on the chicken intestinal microflora.

This research project is a systematic literature review to collate available information on diet-based interventions to prevent campylobacter colonisation of free range and organic chickens.

A systematic literature review of international sources including databases and trade publications on the effects of diets and diet based interventions used in commercial chicken production.

The review will seek to:

clarify what is already known about the use of diet to control campylobacter colonisation in chickens

identify potential dietary interventions and their effects on the chicken gut flora and campylobacter species

More information

A possible approach to controlling colonisation is the use of dietary interventions to modify the intestinal microflora of the chicken gut.
