EFFECT OF SORGHUM DISTILLERS GRAINS ON PERFORMANCE OF BEEF AND DAIRY CATTLE

Objective

1) evaluate the effects of the source (corn vs sorghum grain) & dietary concentration (0, 5, 10, or 15%) of dried distillers grains on the health & performance of finishing feedlot cattle; 2) determine the effects of the source (corn vs sorghum) & dietary concentration (0, 10 or 20% of supplemental protein) of dried distillers grains on the production & health of dairy cows; 3) determine the effects of dried distillers grains on in vitro digestibility, ammonia release & pH changes, 4) determine the effects of dietary degradable protein on utilization of distillers grains by beef cattle; & 5) evaluate the effects of grain processing on the feeding value of distillers grains fed to beef steers in finishing diets.
