The first year objectives of the project are:
<ol>
<li> To plan a statewide food safety conference that includes representatives from industry, government, academic research and extension, and consumer groups; and </li>
<li> To facilitate the formation of sector-based working groups that will contribute to the development of a state plan for food safety,identify educational criteria, and participate in regional food safety programs.</li></ol>

The economic vitality of Pennsylvania communities is tied to the success of its agricultural industries. Central to that success is the production of high quality and safe foods. </p>

Food safety is the responsibility of all participants in the food chain. In essence food safety is a multi-disciplinary effort. An obstacle to developing multi- disciplinary approaches to food safety is to facilitate the development of a multi-disciplinary state plan for food safety. </p>
