Environmental Processes and Impacts of Emerging Contaminants in Soil, Water and Plant Systems

Objective

The long-term goal of this project is to improve environmental and human health and the sustainability of US agriculture by understanding fundamental processes controlling environmental impacts of emerging contaminants, and developing innovative and cost-effective mitigation strategies. The objectives of this project are:1) Investigate fundamental factors and processes governing the fate and transport of selected emerging contaminants in soil and water environments;2) Investigate plant uptake of selected emerging contaminants as influenced by physicochemical and biological factors;3) Develop scientifically-sound mitigation strategies to decrease environmental impacts of soil and water contamination, with a focus on the residue levels of selected emerging contaminants in food crops.
