Establish a PHAGE and new omics capacity for the mitigation of AMR bacteria.

The project goals/objectives are 1) explore the metagenomicanalysis of bacteriophage and antimicrobial resistance genes by Next-Generation DNA Sequencing techniques; 2) isolate bacteriophages that infect multidrug resistant specific spoilage organisms.; 3) develop a phage treatment for application during catfish processing; 4) establish a food omics lab; 5) develop a summer internship program associated with phage research; and 6) build an interdisciplinary collaboration through research and extension services to disseminate the outcomes of the project.
