EULAFF - European Federation of Biotechnology Latin America Action on Functional Foods

Objective

This proposal focuses on supporting the functional food sectors in Europe and Latin America. EULAFF aims at creating an agri-food chain innovation system for identification and development of novel functional foods based on:

Establishing and promoting the development of an effective collaborative network between academic research, industrial, commercial and private investment institutions, with the aim of making a sustainable use of biological diversity of Latin American agricultural crops

<LI> Contributing to the sustainable development of marginal rural areas in Latin America by strengthening formal and informal production chains dedicated to the commercialisation of often under-utilised crops

<LI> Fostering transfer of knowledge, innovative technologies and development of appropriate intellectual property protection to meet niche market demands in the global international trade EULAFF's proposal meets the Objectives of the SSA Call: Areas 5.4.1(Total food chain), 5.4.3 (Impact of food on health) and 5.4.6 ( Safer and environmentally friendly production methods and technologies and healthier food stuffs) of the Food Quality and Safety Programme.

EULAFF focuses on achieving ERA objectives regarding promotion of SME participation, stimulation of international co operation, support of policy development, dissemination and exploitation of research; thus contributing to the EU Strategy for Life Sciences and Biotechnology. EULAFF's Work Programme and partners have a long-standing experience in science and technology, human capital development, entrepreneurship, intellectual property issues, and in designing and implementing international cooperation programmes and projects.

This ensures an in-depth understanding of the dynamics of both the nature of functional food product development and exploitation as well as the evolving complexities of collaboration between Europe and Latin America. The total budget is estimated in 399.920,00 EUR.
