Farm Food Safety Training For Local And Immigrant Crop Producers In Hawaii

Objective

Objective 1Year 1-Complete the translation of the Cornell Prodcue Safety Alliance Grower Training Manual from English IlocanoThe PD and project manager will work to secure translation services to accurately translate the manualThey will work closely with the contractor and the Cornell Produce Safety Alliance to ensure all policys are followedBack translation will be performed as well as proper fomatting to mantain cohesiveness with the English manual and PSA materials.Objective 2Year 1& 2-Complete the translation of Supplemental Documents including the Western Region Center For Enhanced Food Safety (WRCEFS) Pre and Post Questionaire, the American Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) Evalation form and Other Food Safety Documents from English to Ilocano.The PD and project manager will work to secure translation services to accurately translate the pre and post questionaire as well as the evaluation form.They will work closely with the contractor(s) and PSA, WRCEFS, and AFDO to ensure all policys are followed and that all partys approve the use of the translated documents.The PD, Co-PD's, and the project manager will determine what other food safety documents should be translated based on statewide clientele needs. Although Ilocano is the primary language that producers speak other than English, there are also a number of Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese producers. Translation of these supportive documents will be very usefull. These documents may include, decision trees, produce safety rules guidelines, food safety issues specific to Hawaii (Rat Lungworm Disease), worker health & hygiene practices, water testing methods and facilties, cleaning vs sanitizing and use registered products, farm planning documents, templates, logs, etc.Translation services will also include oral translation services. The PSA Grower Training must be perfomed in Ilocano, we intend to perform 3 trainings in year 2 with the support of the additional funds that were provided. Outreach efforts will also be supported by other extramural funds to address the challenges in conducting outreach during the pandemic.
