Feasibility of Using Wideband Radar for the Detection of Foreign Objects in Food

Objective

At the moment there are limitations in sensing very small objects in food, such as fine fragments of bone. Despite their small size these objects can cause injury if eaten, either directly or by for example causing infection.<P>

The new detection method uses radio techniques. The advantages of this method is that it is able to penetrate food packaging (e.g. cardboard, plastics) and detect very small objects obscured from sight. The shape of the foreign object could also be determined.
