The Food Animal Residue Avoidance Databank (FARAD)/NC Component

Objective

The aims of this project is to develop and maintain a drug residue project that will provide estimates of safe withdrawal times when food animals are exposed to drugs and chemical contaminants in an off-label manner.
This project has research, graduate training, and extension outreach components. The outreach component is focused on providing a 24-hr service to veterinarians who may use drugs in an extralabel manner. These veterinarians usually contact the 24-hr service via phone, e-mail, or website access to glean this food safety information.

More information

NON-TECHNICAL SUMMARY:
Food animals are exposed to drugs and chemicals that are sometimes difficult to obtain extra-label withdrawal time. The purpose of this project is to use pharmacokinetic models to predict the withdrawal times. This will minimize the presence of drugs and chemicals in the nation's food supply.

APPROACH:
Develop pharmacokinetic models that will be used to predict drug residue withdrawal time following exposure to extra-label drug use.
