Food Safety Compliance of Hydroponics and Aquaponics Production in Virginia, and Proof of concept Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) Intervention against Potenial Risks

Objective

The objectives and goals of our project are three folds: Objective 1: To assess the prevalence of pathogens associated with small- and mid-size hydroponics production; Objective 2: To assess the risk of disease, and fish and human pathogens associated with small- and mid-size aquaponic tilapia production; and Objective 3: To validate the proof-of-concept of the in situ disease and biocontrol of the pathogens through the introduction of GRAS environmental friendly intervention approaches.
