This program involves cooperation among three institutions: Kansas State University, Haskell Indian Nations University, and the Kansas Rural Center. We will develop Food*A*Syst, a new food safety assessment and education program utilizing the Farm and Home*A*Syst models. The program assessment tools and educational materials focus on two points in the food system:food production (crop and livestock) and home food handling (limited resource and middle income). Materials will be pilot-tested with 60 participants from the target audiences. Micro and residue tests will supplement the assessments. A hard copy notebook and preliminary work on CD-ROM development will be first year products.
