Foodborne Pathogens: Campylobacter Research

Our research examines the bacterial stress responses that are relevant to infection biology, including key aspects that relate to colonisation of the gastrointestinal tract. <P>
We are investigating the causes and implications of intra- and inter-strain genetic variation, including the role of plasmids, and the impact of this variation upon virulence and survival. In particular, we aim to relate genotype to phenotype, both for responses to food/farm-relevant environmental stresses and for the development of recognisably-distinct modes of growth, such as biofilms. <P>
This work includes the further development of both the pan- Campylobacter microarray and detailed Campylobacter proteome map already established at IFR.
