GENETIC UP-REGULATION OF ANTIFUNGAL NATURAL PRODUCTS FOR POST HARVEST CROP PROTECTION

Objective

Identify antifungal flavonoids, isoflavonoids, saponins, and peptides for possible use as crop protectants. Identify induction mechanisms for biochemical pathways leading to increased isoflavonoid and saponin production. Utilize peptide gene expression systems for up regulation of synthesis of peptides. Mass produce antifungal substances and utilize compounds in preliminary trials as crop protectants against post harvest losses due to fungal pathogens.
