Our long-term goal is to develop non-transgenic crops with improved productivity by modifying ROP GTPase signaling genes in rice using the CRISPR/Cas9 genome-editing technology, which can be widely extended to other crops important to California and/or the world. The immediate goal of this project is to identify ROP signaling genes and their alleles in rice that are ideal targets for the genome editing and to demonstrate that this technology can be used to create eliteO. sativasubsp.japonicacultivars with improved yield and wide regional adaptability in California and the United States.?
