GENOME SEQUENCING OF THE RED FLOUR BEETLE, TRIBOLIUM CASTANEUM

This project is to generate sequence coverage to assemble the genome of the stored grain pest, the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum. This beetle is a flexible genetic model for the Coleoptera. The Tribolium castaneum genome sequence would provide a reference of comparison for all other beetles. Data could be enhanced and applied by the multitude of molecular and functional genomic approaches available including forward and reverse genetics.
