The major goal in this project is to determine the potential to breed beef cattle that are more likely to propagate desirable rumen microbes that contribute to sustainable beef production. In order to achieve our major goal, we will pursue the following objectives:1: Determine the microbial compositional profiles and microbial interactions in the rumen of Angus cattle and their relation to feed efficiency.2: Estimate the heritability of rumen microbiota and microbial features.3: Identify genomic markers for rumen microbial taxonomic features.
