IDENTIFICATION AND FUNCTIONAL CHARACTERIZATION OF ODORANT RECEPTORS USED BY WESTERN CORN ROOTWORM LARVAE TO DETECT MAIZE-PRODUCED SEMIOCHEMICALS

Objective

There are two main goals of this project:1) To identify the olfactory receptors that western corn rootwormlarvae use to detect criticalvolatiles produced by maize plants through heterologous expression and functional testing of candidate receptors in cell lines.2) To reduce the expression levels of the receptors for attractant and/or repellant maize volatiles via RNAi and evaluate the effects gene knockdown has on theforaging behavior ofwestern corn rootworm larvae.
