Identification and QTL Mapping of Novel Fusarium Head Blight Resistance in Spring and Durum Wheat

Objective

Project 1: The specific objectives of this proposal are to: 1) Continue to screen the Triticum timopheevii accessions obtained from NSGC for resistance to FHB in greenhouse; 2) Re-evaluate those accessions exhibiting a high level of resistance in the greenhouse; 3) Haplotype the resistant accessions identified and determine the novelty of the resistance sources. Project 2: Sreen advanced breeding lines/ elite germplasm selected by NDSU, SDSU, and UMN for FHB resistance (Type I and II) in the naturally-infected FHB nursery located at Jianyang, China. Project 3: Fine map the QTL, develop user-friendly DNA markers for their easy identification and transfer, and introgress the FHB resistance into adapted spring wheat varieties for better use in breeding programs.
