Objective

Methods for determining the fruit juice content of beverages are normally based on a range of 'classical' analytical parameters, and the accuracy of these approaches may not be sufficient for use in a surveillance exercise.

A literature review is to be carried out to identify potential markers for fruit juice content of apple and pear juice used in the production of cider and perry, and of citrus fruit used in the production of soft drinks.
<p>
A limited amount of practical analytical work is to be carried out as part of this study in order to make an initial assessment of the feasibility of using the chosen markers for the purpose. A cross-comparison with existing methodology is also included as a part of this proposal.
<p>
Once these practical aspects have been undertaken, it should be possible to put the review into context and hence to determine which strategies show the most promise for further development.
