IDENTIFYING THE FOOD SAFETY RESEARCH AND EXTENSION GAPS IN THE CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENTAL AGRICULTURAL FRUIT AND VEGETABLE INDUSTRY

Objective

The overarching goal of this two-day conference, Strategizing to Advance Future Extension andResearch (S.A.F.E.R.) CEA, is to advance the science, knowledge, and practice of food safety in the CEA produce industry.The specific objectives of this conference are to:Plan: Stakeholder-driven planning of the two-day conferenceShowcase: Pre-conference activities to share past and ongoing CEA food safety projects, understand funding resources and researchers' capabilities;Listen: CEA produce industry, food safety research and extension, and regulatory bodies convey their research and extension needs;Action: Facilitate the development of a priority list of research and extension needs to be agreed upon by industry, academia, and government; andCollaborate: Enhance and encourage collaborations for future grant submissions, publications, extension curricula and programming, and presentations at scientific conferences to provide data and fill the identified scientific and knowledge gaps.
