Improved Dietary Fiber Digestion in the Large Intestine Through Selection of 'Fiber-Biotics'

Objective

To isolate and characterize fiber degrading bacteria from pig feces.

More information

Approach: These methods will allow for preferential growth of the bacteria that can ferment cellulose and hemicellulose. In order to increase the diversity of the bacteria that we isolate, we will be using a combination of three types of enrichment-isolation procedures; two based on continuous culture and one based on substrate depletion.
