INDUSTRIAL AND VALUE ADDED USES OF COTTONSEED PRODUCTS

(1) To evaluate the genetically modified cotton cultivars which have a higher proportion of (+)-gossypol in the seed and to determine the ratios of (+)- and (-)-gossypol in the foliage and roots of the plants; and (2) To systematically examine processing conditions and types of solvent to maximize the removal of total gossypol from cottonseed, to selectively extract the gossypol enantiomers from cottonseed, and to assess the value-added applications of these products.
