Initiating The Paso Del Norte Immigrant Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Network

Objective

The specific Goal of this project is to assist at least sixty (60) immigrant, beginning farmers and ranchers to start or improve their agricultural enterprises. This NIFI project focuses on the following BFRDP priorities throughout the duration of the project to achieve this goal:Production, business and marketing trainingLand access and natural resource management and planningMentoring, apprenticeships, and internshipsBuilding capacity of agricultural service providersAchieving objectives in language accessible and culturally appropriate waysThe Objectives associated with the Goal and priorities are:Increased viability of small-scale sustainable beginning farmersIncreased food security for low access communities and the greater regionMore engaged consumers and stronger markets within own communitiesProducers with more developed core competenciesMore land opportunities identified for beginning farmersFarmers/ranchers have more information to implement sustainable agriculture
modelsMore engaged communities of food growers and producersMore mutually beneficial relationships among experienced farmers, new farmers and supporting organizationsMore engaged community of agricultural service providers who offer services in equitable waysAll beginning low-resource farmers have access to the agricultural services they need.
