To assess the dose received by consumers, the Food Standards Agency needs to be able to be able to calculate concentrations of radioactive iodine in foods as a result of atmospheric discharges. The transfer of iodine through the environment and into food depends on the chemical form (species) in which it was discharged.
This project has reviewed the literature on the effect of chemical form on the transfer of iodine .
