Linking Food Safety to Farm*A*Syst and IPM to Reduce Microbial and Pesticide Risks in Apples

Objective

This multi-institutional, cross-disciplinary project will enhance food safety education for apple growers by developing and testing (a) a risk assessment checklist to reduce microbial and pesticide risks, and (b) education materials to increase knowledge of environmental laws and legal responsibilities.

More information

Strong linkages with Farm*A*Syst and Integrated Pest Management will support grower integration of food safety concerns into quality assurance programs. Through networking and materials dissemination, the project will expand education channels and opportunities to promote food safety education. Project evaluation will systematically monitor material development and assess relevance, usefulness and likely impact of materials on grower knowledge, skills and practices.
