MANAGING RICE AND WHEAT DISEASES IN LOUISIANA

Objective

(1) To monitor the dynamics of M. oryzae races and Fusarium spp. populations in Louisiana parishes,(2) To screen advanced rice breeding lines/varieties for blast resistance to help develop protocols for fungicide application and resistant cultivars to predominant races in Louisiana.(3) To identify and functionally characterize plant and fungal genes required for host-pathogen interactions, and to improve rice resistance against the rice blast pathogen and many other fungal pathogens.
