The MV Jambo grounded on rocks off the Summer Isles in June 2003. As part of the monitoring programme following the cessation of the recovery of the zinc sulphide cargo from the MV Jambo, samples of scallops and the edible crab from sites around the Summer Isles were collected over the period October 2003 to January 2004.
<p>
The objective of this study was to determine the concentrations of zinc and trace metals associated with the cargo in commercially caught species of shellfish in the area surrounding the wreck. The information from this programme is being used to advise FSAS of the risk to the human food chain from this incident.
