MECHANISMS UNDERLYING SUSCEPTIBILITY OR RESISTANCE OF ANIMAL SPECIES TO SARS-COV-2

Objective

The overarching goals of the proposed study are to assess the host range of SARS-CoV-2 and determine the mechanisms underlying species susceptibility or restriction to SARS-CoV-2 infection. The specific aims of the proposed study are: Aim 1:To identify the mechanisms underlying SARS-CoV-2 host range and animal species specificity at the cellular level;Aim 2: To characterize the factors affecting SARS-CoV-2 susceptibility at the organism level; and Aim 3: To investigate natural exposure and susceptibility of farm animals to variant SARS-CoV-2 strains through surveillance.
