<p>The first step will be to conduct a literature search to establish which methods are currently available for the determination of intense sweeteners. The selected method will be further developed and internally validated by LGC Ltd following single laboratory validation protocols. Additionally, a third party laboratory will then test the method before it is validated by collaborative trial.</p>
<p>Background: The Agency has previously funded projects to develop methods to simultaneously determine intense sweeteners in food. These methods need to be extended to cover neotame (a newly permitted sweetener) and steviol glycosides, which have recently been evaluated by the European Food Safety Authority.</p>
