Molecular Genomics of Plant Pathogens and Food Safety Microorganisms

Objective

Develop and exploit molecular genomics methods for detection, identification, and quantitation of plant pathogenic fungi and actinomycetes, mycotoxigenic fungi, and food spoilage and biocontrol yeasts and bacteria, and trace to their source in the general and agricultural environment.

More information

Phytopathogenic and toxigenic species of molds and actinomycetes in the genera Aspergillus,Fusarium, Penicillium and Streptomyces and their relatives will be detected and quantified using molecular genomics techniques. These same technologies will be applied to food spoilage and biocontrol yeasts and bacteria. Species and strain specific molecular diagnostics systems will be developed from ribosomal DNA and other gene sequences. <P> Peoria, IL, NCAUR, MPR Labs, Rms 3118, 3122, 3129: BL-1; IBC Recertified 08/30/2000.
