A MULTI-PURPOSE COOPERATIVE TRIAL TO IMPROVE ALL PHASES OF CULTIVAR DEVELOPMENT

Objective

1. Establish a large annual cooperative trial of ~390 wheat lines from six states. The test will include lines from early stage of testing versus only the best lines from each program2. Use the data from the trail to establish seed increases a year earlier than normal so that new varieties can be released and become available to growers earlier than normal3. Use the data from the trial to predict the value of all lines from all programs in each state4. We will provide supplemental training in applied plant breeding to graduate students from all six institutions
