This multi-state, multi-institutional project will develop a food safety education tool that will help consumers assess food safety health risks in their home based on their food handling behaviors. The tool will be a self- assessment checklist, based on and delivered in part through Home*A*Syst, a USDA Water Quality Initiative sponsored home environmental assessment program.
Delivery of the tool will be through Extension Family Living County Agents, Home*A*Syst program networks and Expanded Food Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) educators. The goals of this proposed program are: 1) To improve the ability of consumers to make informed, responsible decisions related to food safety and quality issues and concerns in the home, 2) to integrate programs in food safety, water quality and EFNEP,and 3) to evaluate the effectiveness of this tool and its delivery.
